A former stately home and hospital in a rural parkland setting is being developed as a hotel and spa facility. Extensive bat surveys were carried out on the structures using a team of up to 12 surveyors, and including overnight surveys to establish use of parkland trees. Several bat roosts were located in buildings, and a mitigation plan was formulated in consultation with the developers to enable a development licence to be obtained from Natural England. This included the incorporation of structures suitable for bat roosts in new build, and close involvement from Argus ecological staff during demolition and construction works to ensure legislative compliance. Further monitoring works took place to assess the success of mitigation measures.
