Divethill Quarry

Client: CEMEX UK Ltd.

Divethill Quarry in Northumberland exploits the high quality roadstone of the Whin Sill, a quartz dolerite intrusion best known for its part in north-east England landmarks such as High Force, Hadrian's Wall and Dunstanburgh Castle. Thin, dry soils over the outcrops also support a distinctive flora, with a range of nationally and regionally scarce species. As part of a successful planning application for extension of workings, Argus Ecology plotted the occurrence of rare and scarce plant species around the quarry, carried out a full ecological impact assessment, and provided advice on quarry restoration in order to fulfil planning conditions.
