Amphibian surveys
January 18, 2019
We are now getting closer to the amphibian survey season (March to July). Argus Ecology can offer a range of services to meet your requirements.
- Habitat suitability indices (HSI) can be calculated both 'in season' and 'out of season' to give an indication of a ponds suitability to support a great crested newt population
- Pond surveys using a range of surveying techniques to assess the presence/absence of great crested newt within a pond. If newts are present this can then be extended to calculate a population size which is required for licensing purposes.
- Environmental DNA (eDNA) can be sampled to prove presence/absence of great crested newt. This is particularly suitable for large scale projects and can be used to partially reduce the scope of further newt surveys saving the client time and money.
