Leisure Developments

The ecological impacts of leisure developments such as golf courses, marinas, sports facilities, hotels and chalet parks vary enormously, and have to be assessed on an individual basis. Often the same factors which make an area attractive for leisure and tourism also endow it with significant nature conservation interest, so leisure developments perhaps conflict more frequently with statutory conservation designations.

At the same time, many leisure developments have significant scope for the incorporation of ecological enhancement measures, especially where the maintenance of significant open space is integral to the development, such as country hotels or woodland chalet developments.
